Reddi and Zhu created a set of web programming language extensions, available to the public at WattWiseWeb.org. After integrating GreenWeb into Google Chrome on their Android phones, the researchers reported energy savings of 30-66 percent compared to the default settings.
For smartphone users who spend nearly two-thirds of their time browsing the internet, that means 20-40 percent more battery life. The average smartphone gets around 14 hours of battery power but energy-efficient browsing could add an additional 2.5-5.5 hours of usage.
