XOS Digital Inc.’s general counsel and executive vice president Stephen Kaplan recently spoke with Colin O’Keefe of LXBN about how small firms can use technology to compete with their larger competitors for the coveted in-house clients and just what he’s looking for as general counsel.

When asked whether he’s shopping for a firm or individual lawyers when looking for outside counsel, Kaplan explained it’s both. For large-scale transactions or litigations that will affect the life of the corporation, he says GCs are looking to a firm with a team that has the full resources to tackle the issue. But, he explains, “most of our lives as in-house counsel it’s not those make or break the company moments.” And during those times, technology can be used to foster a one-on-one relationship between outside and inside counsel.
