I am pleased and proud to have authored a book unlike any other in the mediation field. I hope you will buy it and read it. And then I hope you will buy a big stack of them and send them to clients when they have an upcoming mediation!
A Short & Happy Guide to Mediation will enhance your understanding of how mediation is supposed to work, and how it used to work, before it became a routine part of every litigator’s existence. It will help your client understand what to expect, and how to use the process to achieve the most effective result possible.
Mediation Works
The book may be called “Short & Happy”, but I have never been shy about raising my concerns with how the practice of mediation has evolved since the passage of our ADR statute in 1987. My book is about how the process works, and how to make it work, effectively. There are things you can do from beginning to end–from agreeing (or not agreeing!) to mediate, to the selection of the mediator, to strategic decisions regarding the joint session and a negotiation plan, to anticipating the Mediated Settlement Agreement–that make a difference. Mediation has become part of our landscape because it works. But the way we mediate these days can be improved.
Yogi Berra famously said, “No one goes to that restaurant any more . . . it’s too crowded”. There are times when my concerns about mediation may seem inconsistent with the fact that more mediations are occurring than ever. What I attempt to address in my little book is not the number of mediations, but settlement rates and the overall satisfaction of participants these days with the mediation process.
So jump on Amazon.com and buy your copy. Or better yet, come mediate with me and you can buy one personally signed by the author!
Sincerely,

Will Pryor
