65% of the respondents said they spend more than half of their marketing budgets on online initiatives; and 40% spend more than 75% of total marketing budgets.
42% said the best performing advertising mediums were lead generation services. Beyond that, search engine optimization efforts were chosen by 18% of responders; 14% cited search engine marketing, such as Google Adwords in pay-per-click campaigns. Perhaps surprisingly, only 4.1% cited blogging and social media. Advertising in “Yellow Pages,” phone books, TV and print were all below 3%.
Lead generation accounts for more than 25% of new business, reported 44% of respondents, and of that group, half said it triggered more than 50% of new business.
Timing is everything, according to the respondents: 71% of respondents say they respond to a lead within an hour; 37% within 15 minutes. Less than 1% respond a day or more after the query. A surprising 22% will contact the lead once, 64% will give it three tries, 12% up to six times.
Firms track leads via case management systems (23%), Microsoft Corp.’s Excel spreadsheets (26%), other means (25%)— 25% don’t track leads.
