The field of health care, with its myriad interconnected “players” and complexity of transactions, has long been fertile ground for many types of disputes and conflicts, ranging from general contract matters to medical malpractice issues. With the advent of the Affordable Care Act, it is especially incumbent upon experienced mediators interested in mediating health care-related matters to become well-educated in the nuances and uniqueness of disputes and conflicts within the field. This two-day, highly interactive advanced workshop is designed to provide just such an educational experience.
Through engaging dialogue, interactive exercises, and six simulated health care mediations facilitated by a faculty of experienced health care mediators, attendees will acquire vital knowledge about health care practice and techniques and refine skills indispensable to the effective health care mediator.

Managed care vs accountable care
Payer-ER physician group disputes
In-hospital disputes
Bioethics mediation
Recruitment agreement disputes
General contract disputes
Peer review disputes
Anatomy of a medical malpractice case
Research relevant to medical malpractice lawsuits
Adverse events, medical errors, and conflict resolution in hospitals
Ethics and standards for mediators
The registration fee includes all course materials and a continental breakfast and lunch each day.
Who Should Attend
Prior mediation experience is required to fully participate in and benefit from all the course has to offer. However, attorneys, administrators, and health care professionals may find the workshop beneficial for learning more about how mediation can be effectively used to resolve disputes and conflicts within the their field.
CLE Information:
This course has been approved in Texas for 14.5 hours CLE credit (including 1.5 Ethics credit hours), and by NY State for a total of 17 hours of transitional/non-transitional CLE credit (12.5 Skills, 3 Professional Practice and 1.5 Ethics) – NY State scholarship will be available upon request. This course is also eligible for a total of 14.5 hours of California CLE credit (13 general, 1.5 ethics) and has been approved by the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education board for 14.5 hours of substantive law, practice and procedure CLE credit, including 1.5 hours of ethics credit. The AAA will not be offering CLE in any other jurisdiction but can provide a Uniform Certificate of Attendance for individuals to apply for their own state CLE.
