Many times in mediation you may face a situation where the day feels like it is going out of control. The case isn’t settling the way that you wanted; the opposing parties are intractable, and the day looks like it is going to be a waste. Well in those situations, I often follow the wisdom of Monty Python and “always look on the bright side of life.” I try to have a positive attitude about the process, the parties, and the success of the mediation. Somehow, I find that at the end of the day the case is settled. Sometimes I don’t even know why, but I just know that it resolved. I always felt that the Pythonesqe attitude had something to do with that.
Well recently, I feel even more convinced that the positive attitude can create change. I learned about the work of Dr. Masuru Emoto and his research into water. In short, his research has found that water, at the molecular level, changes depending on the emotion it receives. Yes, that is right. Water changes if you are good to it and looks differently if you are angry at it. Ok, I understand that it sounds weird. But look at the following video and see if it blows your mind too.
