The old guard and fresh voices gathered Friday in balmy Silicon Valley to tackle an agenda that was simultaneously cutting-edge and ancient: Can technology break down the wall that prevents 80 percent of the American population from getting affordable legal services?
FutureLaw Conference 2014 was held at Stanford Law School, organized by Michael Genesereth, research director at CodeX (The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics); Tim Hwang, partner, Robot Robot & Hwang, and a Codex fellow; and executive director Roland Vogl. The day-long panel attracted an eclectic, attentive audience of lawyers, law students, entrepreneurs, activists, vendors, researchers, consultants and fresh and veteran practitioners. Thomson Reuters was a co-sponsor of the event. Complementing the event was a Wednesday afternoon invitation-only LexRedux West afternoon program on legal startups presented by the Lawangel Network, also held on the Stanford campus.
