What does the former general counsel of the Copyright Office, Jon Baumgarten, think about the Southern District of New York’s Google Books’ ruling that essentially allows the behemoth to photocopy millions of books under the “fair use” doctrine? “Jon Baumgarten then explained why he thought Judge Chin decided the case incorrectly. Jon agreed with me that there was precedent supporting the decision, but argued that Judge Chin ignored other, more compelling precedent,” Band recounts.
