Yale Law School Wine Team Knows Their Subject

Why do lawyers all love Bordeaux? I’m convinced that attorneys make up at least half of all buyers of classified growths. (Those are, of course, some of the best wines of Bordeaux.) Sometimes the bond is formed later in life, and sometimes it begins as early as law school. That’s where it started for the four members of the Yale Law School wine team, who took to the wines so naturally that they’re on their way to a competition in Bordeaux next month.
That competition, formally known as the Left Bank Bordeaux Cup, is an international competition of amateurs from universities all over the world, including France, “non-French Europe,” Asia and the U.S. It will be held on June 14 at the famed Chateau Lafite in Bordeaux.
The Yale Law School wine team was among the nine teams from prestigious universities such as Harvard, Stanford, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (the runner-up) and Columbia (both the law and the business schools) in the qualifying round last January. Yale’s victory is a particularly impressive feat, considering the team is less than two years old.
