I've been using Word for iPad almost every day since it was released two weeks ago. I really like it, and I've now used it enough to write a full review. I'm at ABA TECHSHOW in Chicago right now, and the big news on Thursday was that Microsoft released a version of Word (and Excel, and PowerPoint) for the iPad. I have been kicking the tires on this app since it was released Thursday afternoon, and I am incredibly impressed. Yep, it’s finally here. After lots of promises and years of delay, Microsoft has finally released a true Office for iPad suite (no more emulations from third parties). Maybe this move is to counter Apple’s semi-recent decision to bundle its iLife apps (Pages, Numbers and Keynote) for free. Maybe they just finally got around to it. Who knows? The new iPad Air goes on sale this Friday. Last week, Apple loaned iPad Airs to a few journalists who were allowed to post their reviews starting last night. The reviews are universally positive. Everyone seems to agree that iPad Air is not just lighter than previous models, it is light enough to make a real difference in every-day usage. I recently purchased an iPad 4 (also known as the "iPad with Retina Display") and spent several weeks breaking it in on my travels (to China for two weeks, for instance). The iPad 4 is very similar to the iPad 3, but with several important differences. Both iPads represent a huge upgrade from the iPad 2 (which I traded in to get the iPad 4). So for this month's "12 on 12," here's a dozen compliments and complaints about the iPad 4.
