Security Life Insurance Company was the successor to certain reinsurance agreements covering underlying life insurance risks. Pursuant to the agreements, the reinsurers created a trust in order to fund the required reserves. The trustee, INA Trust FSB, and the reinsurers thereafter allegedly created a new trust, transferred funds from the previous trust to one of the reinsurers, and/or its principal, but did not name Security Life as a beneficiary under the new trust, as allegedly required under...
This Monday the ABA House of Delegates voted to adopt Resolution 108 supporting limited scope representation or unbundling. This resolution was crafted by the Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services. ABA Staff Counsel, Will Hornsby, and the Committee Chair, Ritchey Hollenbaugh, presented the Resolution to the House in Dallas.
Because unbundling is frequently used as a method of legal service delivery for virtual practice, I want to post the actual text of the resolution here. Obviously,...
Law firms would be well served to know which social media are most popular for our nation’s fastest growing businesses. After all, networking to build relationships and enhance your word of mouth reputation requires going where the people are.

Back in 2009, before I entered law school, I read “The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court”, by Jeffrey Toobin. At the time, reading about the behind-the-scenes workings of the legal world’s most powerful individuals reinforced my interest in going to law school. Google Calendar, available with a free Google account and also bundled with the fee-based Google Apps productivity suite, is an interesting product. While it is not exactly revolutionary in the way it handles online calendar management, there are features—such as easily creating and sharing multiple calendars, the “quick add” smart appointments, and the option to make calendars public—that make it intriguing.
Those who use Google Apps for Business will have the best experience in terms...
As co-founder and President of JD Match, the first online platform designed to connect law firms with law students, I've seen firsthand some trends in large firm recruiting that would have seemed unusual — even unheard of — just a few years ago. In this issue of BigLaw, I'll offer my perspective.
But first, as economists, statisticians, and smart business managers know, "averages lie." In the limited space I have, I'm constrained to speak in terms of averages across the industry. If your...
