One of the University of Texas’ slogans is “What starts here changes the world.” That phrase has certainly come into context these days, considering it applies to John Hanke, the creator of Pokémon GO.
Hanke is CEO and founder of Niantic Inc., the company that developed the Pokémon GO augmented reality video game that has become the fastest-growing app ever released for Apple Inc.’s iOS and Google Inc.’s Android mobile operating systems.
What started as an April Fool’s joke in 2014 has become one of the biggest technology stories of the year. Pokémon GO has about 21 million daily active users, according to Survey Monkey, making it the most popular mobile game ever and threatening to overtake Snapchat and Google Maps on Android.
