Inside counsel identify 9 percent more law firms using technology as a source of innovation in 2015, according to a new BTI Consulting report.
It’s no secret: there is a widespread perception in the legal industry that law firms are not on the forefront of technology adoption. Indeed, the idea that law firms are becoming more tech-savvy may sound oxymoronic, but a new survey of nearly 700 corporate counsel at Fortune 1000 companies revealed that more law firms are using client-facing technology.
In the report, “BTI Brand Elite 2015: Client Perceptions of the Best-Branded Law Firms,” 648 corporate counsel at Fortune 1000 companies said that 9 percent more law firms are using technology as “a source of innovation” in 2015 compared to last year. Corporate counsel surveyed noted an increase in the number of firms using technology to the client’s advantage.
BTI Consulting’s “Brand Elite 26” are law firms with the biggest imprint on corporate counsel in what BTI defines as nine brand differentiators influencing hiring and selection. Joining BTI’s “Tech Savvy Best of Best” ranking this year is the New York City-based law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. Several firms named as “Tech Savvy Leaders” in the report also made this year’s Am Law 100 including: Baker & McKenzie; DLA Piper; Jones Day, Latham & Watkins; Morgan Lewis; Sidley Austin; and Sullivan & Cromwell.
