VerdictSearch.com, which offers verdict and settlement news and research, has a new user interface that facilitates access to more than 175,000 case results via an advanced search interface. The search interface is designed to help litigators, insurance adjusters, and others identify cases, using key terms and criteria specific to facts such as injury type, award amount, and jurisdiction.
ALM’s VerdictSearch also offers selected summaries of new and noteworthy verdicts from federal and state jurisdictions on its home page. These are selected by editors to help lawyers with current cases — and provide a preview of what subscribers see when they access VerdictSearch.
The advanced search interface provides 15 search criterium to define initial results. The main search window accepts search terms in Boolean Logic with proximity (e.g., within 3) and truncation or stem (e.g., tort* to return tort, tortfeasor, or tortious) searching. I searched for “train w/3 (platform or station)” and received 180 estimated results, which was previewed in total in the right margin. See Figure 1.
I added “slip or fall” to the search string, and narrowed my results to 108 documents. I further limited my results by jurisdiction (California, the District of Columbia, and New York) and narrowed my results to 76 documents. I hit the search button to view the documents in a list with filtered views. See Figure 2.
