NextLaw Labs signs ROSS Intelligence, a startup developing a legal advisor app powered by IBM Watson.
Making good on its plan to develop, deploy and invest in new technologies, Am Law 100 firm Dentons’ innovation arm—NextLaw Labs—has partnered with IBM to develop a program that will allow startups to create and deploy legal applications more quickly.
Over the next few years, the increasing use of technology to collaborate with clients and create a more transparent working relationship is going to be a major driver of change, according to John R. Fernandez, U.S. chief innovation officer and partner at Dentons.
“Creating open systems and co-developing services along with clients will have a significant impact on the legal business model,” Fernandez said in an interview with Legaltech News. “At the same time, technology is expanding access to the law and legal services. Right now there is a huge market that is being underserved by lack of access to high-quality legal advice. Over the next few years, we could see a major shift towards an open-buying platform when it comes to retaining legal services.”
